The roundtable focused on the thematic area of 'Participatory Urban Governance'. It intended to discuss various attempts to encourage citizen participation by the Government of India and learn from experiences of participatory practices in several Indian cities. Key discussions by experts centered around the challenges and prospects for participatory governance in Indian cities. Considering the slow progress of participatory governance across urban India, the experts highlighted some green shoots to strengthen participation like empowering communities socially and politically, forming linkages with community action groups, and strengthening Ward Secretariats.
